A fresh, timeless finish using Farrow & Ball Shaded White
I recently completed a hall, stairs and landing redecoration project in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, giving this important part of the home a fresh, clean and timeless look using Farrow & Ball Shaded White.
The hallway, staircase and landing are often some of the busiest areas of a home, so getting the preparation right is essential for achieving a quality finish that looks great and stands up to everyday life.
Thorough preparation for a quality finish
As with all my painting and decorating projects, the focus was on getting the surfaces properly prepared before applying the paint. This included sanding, filling imperfections and preparing the walls and woodwork to create a smooth, sound surface ready for decoration.
Good preparation is what makes the difference between a quick freshen-up and a professional finish. Taking the time to get the details right helps achieve a much better overall result.
The challenge of a vaulted window
One of the more challenging aspects of this Chesham decorating project was the vaulted window. Working at height to clean and paint a window in a vaulted space requires extra care, patience and attention to detail.
Making sure the window was properly cleaned and decorated helped bring the whole area together, leaving a crisp, fresh appearance and making the most of the natural light coming into the space.
Farrow & Ball Shaded White – a timeless choice
For the colour scheme, we chose Farrow & Ball Shaded White, a beautifully understated neutral that works particularly well in hallways, staircases and landings.
Its soft, warm character creates a welcoming feel without overpowering the space. It's a versatile choice for homeowners looking for a classic finish that complements a range of interior styles.
The finished result was a fresh, smart and inviting hall, stairs and landing, with careful preparation and the chosen colour working together to transform this everyday living space.
