1950's Exterior in Northwood

Exterior Painting Project For A 1950s Semi In Northwood

Exterior Painting Project for a 1950s Semi in Northwood

Earlier this year I completed an exterior painting and decorating project for a senior citizen in Northwood, at a three-bedroom 1950s semi-detached property. The aim was to protect and refresh the exterior woodwork while addressing a number of age-related issues common with properties of this era.

The Brief

The work focused on all lower-level exterior woodwork, including:

  • Front door and window woodwork (with areas of rotten timber)

  • A rear door that was no longer opening correctly

  • The garage door

As with many older homes across Watford, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, the priority was durability, weather protection, and a neat, well-maintained appearance.

Preparation and Repairs

Preparation played a key role in this exterior decorating job. Rotten sections of wood around the front door windows were carefully repaired, and adjustments were made to the rear door so it could open and close properly again. Thorough sanding, filling, and priming ensured the surfaces were sound before any topcoats were applied.

The Finish

The client chose a bold red exterior colour, which proved challenging and required multiple coats to achieve an even, solid finish. Using high-quality, durable exterior paints ensured good coverage, long-term protection, and a strong final result that really lifted the appearance of the property.

The Result

The completed exterior painting work left the property looking smart, protected, and refreshed, with practical issues resolved and woodwork ready to withstand the elements for years to come.
